Horses available for adoption

Slaughter-bound horses can often be purchased from your local livestock auction houses. Each is run differently so you would need to contact the auction house and inquire if they will sell their 'kill pen' or 'slaughter pen' horses to private parties. You can also ask who the kill buyer(s) are who frequent that particular auction and try to buy from the kill buyers themselves.
Others may be purchased directly out of feedlots or from individuals who buy these horses out of the feedlots and try to rehome them.
Any of these routes does help a horse and hopefully opens up a door where yet another horse may be pulled to safety from a feedlot or killpen.

Each of these horses were literally saved from the brink of slaughter. If they had not been bought out the situation they were in each of them would be dead. They are now extremely fortunate creatures, receiving plenty of good care, feed and shelter while awaiting new forever homes. Please consider giving one of these horses the permanent, loving home and good care that he or she deserves.

I, ________________________________________, hereafter referred to as the adopter, hereby agree that the above described animal is being adopted by me solely as a pet for myself and/or my immediate family. I agree that I will not breed, sell, lease, loan, give away or otherwise dispose of said animal to any person(s), dealer, retailer, auction, slaughterhouse, kill buyer, institute or any other entity for any reason. If at a later date I am unable or unwilling to keep this animal I agree to first contact the seller, Phantom Meadow Equine and give them the option to reclaim said pet. Phantom Meadow Equine will always have 1st right to reclaim the animal. No guarantee is made that the adoption fee will be refunded and in most cases will be forfeited. Adopter and seller are bound by Agreements that require the location and care of the animal be easily confirmed.

I, the adopter hereby agree to care for the above described pet in a humane and responsible manner and to provide it with clean and
adequate shelter, food, water and veterinary care. Adoptive homes must be clean and free of debris or damaged fencing that
could cause injury. I further agree that said pet shall reside at my home or at a suitable boarding facility. Phantom Meadow Equine
reserves the right to inspect the shelter the horse will be transported to and to request references regarding to prior pet ownership from a potential adopter. Phantom Meadow Equine also requests periodic updates on the well being of the animal. If upon following up on the care of the animal it is found that it is not being cared for, being inadequate feed, water, shelter, proper medical care or any kind of mistreatment, neglect or abuse Phantom Meadow Equine has the right to remove the animal with the adoption fee being forfeited.

I hereby agree that the adoption fee of $ _______________________ helps to cover the applicable expenses of purchasing, transporting, feeding, veterinary care and professional training (if any) for the animal while at the sellers facility. I hereby understand and agree that Phantom Meadow Equine makes no guarantee’s, expressed or implied about the above mentioned animal's temperament and is hereby absolved from any liability for future damages or injuries caused by said animal. I also understand and agree that Phantom Meadow Equine further gives no guarantees, expressed or implied, of the suitability of the animal to the adopter and/or his family or as to the soundness, health or usability of the adopted animal.

All information provided by Phantom Meadow Equine is information received at the time the animal was accepted by Phantom Meadow Equine and is correct to Phantom Meadow Equine's knowledge. Any additional information on the animal’s health, soundness and temperament while at Phantom Meadow Equine will be relayed to the Adopter.

I certify that all statements made by me on this adoption agreement are true and correct. I agree to the terms of this contract and that Phantom Meadow Equine has the right to confiscate the above described animal in the event that any statements made by me are found to be false and/or I break any of the conditions stated in this agreement. I agree that I am responsible for any legal fees pertaining to this adoption or the re-acquirement of this animal by the seller if I am found to have breached this contract. In any case all adoptions fees or other fees I have paid will be forfeited.

Equine Adoption Contract

The following horses and ponies were rescued from various locations. They are residing here and were available for adoption to good, permanent homes. However since they have been here for so long we have decided to give them permanent sanctuary and they are no longer available to adopt.

'Billy'

20 y/o quarterpony. Bought out of feedlot - saved from slaughter. Adopted.

'PonyBoy'

'PonyBoy' was purchased out of a feedlot where he was awaiting shipment to slaughter. He has a spinal injury which includes neurological damage. The injury affects his gait, strength and coordination. He may never be ridable and is offered for adoption ONLY as a retired pasture pet or companion to a mild mannered equine. He has an incredibly sweet disposition and gentle nature. The only reason I am offering him for adoption is because of his particuarly sweet nature he would make an extraordinarily nice companion for an elderly or disabled horse or special needs child. His home here is not at all in jeapordy however I felt he might have a purpose somewhere as a sweet addition to a special family. He is about 14.2, gelded.

The lives of the following horses and ponies were saved thanks to the support from many, many donators. Phantom Meadow Equine was able to soliciate the donations to pay for these equines and spare them the indescribable horror of the slaughterhouse.

Late 20's paint gelding. Bought out of feedlot - saved from slaughter. Passed in QT. Vet said most likely a stroke or anurism, advanced age and strangles being contributing factors.

'Sage'

Sage is a SUPER-cute blue roan poa pony gelding with an AWESOME personality. He has the most adorable & colorful personality I have ever seen in an equine. He is not trained to ride and is for sale to a trainer only. He is halter broke, ties, leads and has had a saddle on him many times. He loves being groomed and messed with and will follow me around the pasture waiting for me to drop something so he can trot off with it!! He is always instigating interactions with any willing pasturemates, LOVES to play and has a great sense of humor. Doing great with the farrier now too! Loaded with energy this pony would be a heck of a prospect for just about anything. SMART pony - too curious for his own good, not afraid of anything and very fun to watch!! Small - approx 12.3hh - 13hh. Never measured him so am just guessing.

'Jasper'

Jasper is a very husky, stout mare. She has a beautiful and rare palomino roan coloring. She is an Appaloosa/Poa, 14.1hh. She is built like a tank. HUGE broad chest, thick neck, wide back etc. Not trained to ride. She has been overcoming serious trust issues. She is halter broke, allows herself to be groomed and touched all over now although she is still slightly wary. She has been saddled several times but is not yet comfortable with it. For adoption only to a trainer who is understanding of her past mistreatment. She has improved significantly but she needs a sympathetic owner who will continue to be sensitive to her delicate emotional status. Jasper is good for the farrier, is sweet and friendly as a pasture pet but she could be an incredible riding horse.
