~~~Home to Special Needs, Disabled and Rescue Horses~~~
Formerly an active, public & nonprofit rescue for special needs and slaughterbound horses, Phantom Meadow Equine is now simply a private equine rescue and home to several special needs horses & ponies. While as a public rescue Phantom Meadow Equine provided rescue, respite, rehabilitation and retirement services to disabled horses, horses that were awaiting shipment to slaughter or were otherwise in need. I have been rescuing horses for over 30 years, paying all expenses out of pocket at quite a financial burden. I thought I could do more good for more horses and decided to incorporate and form a nonprofit equine rescue. Although 50+ horses have been saved due to the efforts of Phantom Meadow Equine there was not adequate financial support or available volunteer labor to keep the rescue in operation
Phantom Meadow Equine still strives to do all we can to help horses that have been neglected, abused, sold at auctions, bought by kill buyers, sent to feedlots, are headed to slaughter or are cast off as unwanted. Phantom Meadow Equine is particularly sensitive to the plights of the most hard-to-place animals; the crippled, the blind, aged & aging, scared & scarred or any horse that has a trait or ailment that has caused him or her to be deemed as worthless.
Phantom Meadow Equine does not take donations as an entity but will occasionally hold fundraisers for special circumstances. We will continue to be committed to help special needs and slaughterbound horses as we always have. We will also assist others in horse-rescue related activites. Despite the fact Phantom Meadow Equine is no longer a public rescue we do provide a permanent home to several special needs equines and still work very hard helping needy horses in any way we are able as a private equine rescue.
Possible future plans for Phantom Meadow Equine would be to form a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and would include purchasing or acquiring land and building adequate, up-to-date facilities to house and meet the needs of rescued horses. Included projects would be to add training facilities to aid in our rehabilitation of sound horses and also provide a large retirement facility and supply the needed services for geriatric and disabled horses. Plans include offering public education, tours of our facilities and sharing the stories of the many horses that we have saved. Other necessities would be to have the ability through funding to purchase equipment and materials that will help us take care of these horses better, more efficiently and on a large scale. These future plans are entirely dependent on receiving much needed financial support.
